What to do in an accident

Even the most skilled among drivers encounter accidents at some point in their lives. It is important that you know what should be done if you find yourself in an accident.

Below is a list of the important items you should document to ensure that the claims process is handled as quickly and smoothly as possible. Feel free to print out this page or jot the items below and keep it in your glove compartment—we hope you will never need it.

Don’t forget to…

		Write a description of any damage to your car
		Take pictures of your car’s damage, any debris on the road, and the damage done
		to the other car(s) if you have a camera or a phone with a camera with you
		Draw a diagram of the accident

Here are some additional pointers to keep in mind if you have an accident:

1. Stay calm.

2. Do not leave the scene of the accident.

3. Do not talk about the details of the accident with anybody else other than the police.

4. Do not admit any fault.

5. If no one has done so yet, call the police. They will let you know if the presence of an officer is required once they receive details about the accident.
